Reserving a piece

Reserving holds the work for seven days at no cost and no obligation. I will contact you within one working day to arrange payment, which happens directly between us: cash, cheque, bank transfer, or a payment link if that is easier. If I have not heard back after seven days the piece goes back up, and you are welcome to reserve it again.

Collection and delivery

Collection from the studio in the Mission is free and my preference, because I like meeting the people who take work home. Local delivery within San Francisco is $30. Paintings ship flat-packed and insured anywhere in the US, priced at cost, usually $60 to $180. Mosaic, bone and antler work is fragile and heavy in odd ways: I crate it myself, quote shipping per piece, and for anything with a horn or a spur on it I will usually ask you to collect.

Where the materials come from

Every bone, antler and skull in my work is found, naturally shed, or salvaged. Nothing is hunted for art and nothing comes from a protected species. Glass, steel, driftwood and hardware are reclaimed wherever I can manage it. If you want to know the provenance of a particular piece, ask me and I will tell you exactly where it came from.

Living with it

Mosaic wants dusting with a dry brush, never a soaked cloth. Bone and antler do not like direct sun or a humid bathroom. Rusted steel is sealed but will keep moving very slowly, which is the point. Every piece leaves here with a card telling you how to look after it, and I will re-set a fallen tessera for free, for as long as I am working.

If it is not right

Work can be returned within fourteen days of receipt for a full refund, in its original condition and packaging, with return shipping paid by you. Commissions are not returnable, which is why the process below has checkpoints in it.

Commissions

A fifty percent deposit confirms the slot and covers materials. It is non-refundable once I have started, because I will have bought the surface and blocked out the weeks. You see a sketch for approval and one progress photo at the halfway point, and you can ask for changes at either. The balance is due on completion. For memorial and ashes work I will always talk with you on the phone first, at no cost, before either of us commits to anything.

Consigned work

A few pieces here are by artist friends, sold from my studio on their behalf at an agreed split. Reserving, returns, collection and delivery work exactly the same as for my own work, and the artist is paid when the sale completes.

Prints

Some pieces are available as archival prints, made to order. Prints are paid by Venmo, checked and signed before they leave, and shipped flat or rolled within the US with shipping included in the price. Print orders arrive in about two weeks, and the fourteen-day return applies to them too.

Workshops

Block bookings can be transferred to a later block with a week of notice. Single sessions cancelled with more than 48 hours notice are refunded in full. One to one vouchers are paid by Venmo, are good for a year, and can be moved to another person with a message. Senior facilitation sessions are arranged and invoiced with the venue, not with individual participants. Mosaic and metal sessions involve sharp edges and I will ask you to sign a short waiver on the day.

Your details

I collect your name, email, and phone number only so that I can reply to you about the piece, workshop, or commission you asked about. I do not sell or share them, I do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask, and I delete enquiry details once the conversation is finished. Ask me to remove your details at any time and I will do it that day.
